If you’ve read my bio, you know that I love dirt. I love it so much that I can’t even bring myself to say “dirt”, but rather refer to this living system as it should — soil. Over the summer I worked at Rosie’s Garden’s in northern Indy, and while there I discovered that there are many people that just don’t understand soil, its roll in growing a garden, or even really the entire biosphere of a garden. There are a myriad of aspects from the soil to the bugs that climb all over our plants. There are diseases to contend with and the health of the plant to consider regularly.
My heart reaches out to these people because they don’t necessarily have the information they need laid out in front of them in order to create a garden paradise they love. My love of teaching made me immediately stand up and volunteer to show them, guide them, and give them the knowledge they need to design, plant, and attend to their gardens. I’m starting with a workshop at Rosie’s to teach people the basics of soil science.
I ran the concept by several people before I talked to Rose at Rosie’s for permission. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
Frankly, I never thought of this as a possible long term project; I never thought that more than a handful of people would need it.
However, I’m listening to all of you. I’m listening to your gardening dreams and troubles. I’m making a list of workshops, e-courses, e-books, and workshops.
I want to empower you to make the garden of your dreams.
