As I’ve become more comfortable with the theme I’ve chosen for my personal page, I’ve changed this up a bit to be cleaner and more organised. Now, you’ll all the archive pages across the top menu bar, but no bar at the top of the page. Think of this as your nickel tour — sans the nickel charge.
On the front page
- The sliders lead to different parts of Insanitek. Click on them if you want to get more involved in knowing about the company, but not necessarily me.
- Directly underneath the sliders are the featured items. This is where I’m going to use to link to my work on other sites. There are lots of different icons I can use, but none of them directly represents the place I’m linking too. Thus, I will choose an icon based on what I think may represent the article. Wish me luck on that since the icons are mostly computer oriented.
- Under the featured items are the most recent projects I’ve completed and posted. Within these announcements will be links to all the posts related to that project. Chances are if you’ve read every single featured item that I’ve put up, you’ll have read all the links within the projects.
- “Random Thoughts” is a quick view of my personal blog here. If you want to get to the blog itself, head to the menu and look under “Behind the Pen”, and you’ll see a new menu item called “Bits and Bobs”. That will take you to the blog itself. In the blog you’ll see a lot of things that talk about me, the projects I’m working on, and my life in general. After all, that’s what an about me site does, right? Don’t worry, I will be talking more about the projects than anything else, but don’t be surprised when you see book reviews, the occasional mention of food, etc. 😉
- Clicking on any image under Satisfied Business Partners will take you to their website. These are the people and companies that I have worked with over the years on both science communication and non-science communication related things. After all, I did start out editing books for friends that have later become successful fiction authors. Eventually as my client lists from henceforth grows, it may even link to people that I work with for Insanitek on both R&D items and educational items.
Behind the Pen
Behind the Pen gives you a story about how I came to where I am today. It’s just a glimpse into what makes me me as of the time of writing that page. If you want to know more, head over to the Bits and Bobs page which leads you to my blog.
Bits and Bobs
Half the reason for having an about me page is to make myself known to my employees and those that would want to work with me. I’m human — despite what people think of their bosses. I exercise, cook, read, crochet, run a business, get my hands in the dirt, explore, and research. This is who I am, and I don’t shy away from it at all. Bits and Bobs will show you all this with the sheer variety of the posts I will end up writing.
I do have one thing to say about this section, though: While I fully intend to make a post once a week, I can’t guarantee that it will happen. Nor do I guarantee that it will only be once a week. If I have something to say, I’ll put it down.
Projects
The projects link across the menu bar will take you to a page that has all the projects since I started this site, while the front just shows the most recent. Feel free to browse and make requests for other topics too.
CV
A lot of people ask for your credentials when you begin writing for them. My CV is up for the world to see, and I’ll eventually update it, clean it up, make it more web friendly. But not today. Today I have other plans like reading and writing, a trip to the library, and chores.
Because my CV is so incredibly long, I decided to link published papers and talks that have been made freely available on a different page. This page is simply called “Selected papers”, and can be found under the CV tab on the main page. Maybe some day I will put them all on the same page as my CV, but there are so few that this makes it easier for people to find.
Hopefully that covers all the things that I’ll ever need to put here. If you think of something I desperately need, let me know in the comments.
