Have you ever dreamed that your small business would have an impact on your community? How about the entire economy? The RSA Action and Research Centre of the UK has noticed that small businesses are on the rise and helping their economy grow.
Yet amidst all the economic doom and gloom there is a transformation occurring in our economy that may radically change peopleâs lives for the better â namely the sharp rise in the number of microbusinesses. Since 2008 a remarkable 500,000 new microbusinesses have been created, whereas all other business types have experienced static or negative growth. This growth has been driven in part by the increasing popularity of self-employment, with a record 15 per cent of people now working for themselves.
There is much they don’t know about the world of microbusinesses in the UK, so they teamed up with Etsy to find out. Until early 2015, they will be working to find out the answers to the following questions:
- What âtypesâ of microbusinesses exist?
- What has caused the large increase in recent years?
- What effect are they having on wider society and the economy?
- And, perhaps most importantly, what can we do to realise their full potential?
If you are in the UK, we ask that you reach out to them and see what you can do about giving your voice and data to the project. If you are in the States or anywhere else, leave your voice here. We’ll do our own little “micro research” to see why you guys have chosen to run your own company, what kind of company you have, and even see what we can do about helping you succeed.
