Unit 8: Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy (Preview)
We fuel our world and culture relentlessly. We don’t stop to think about the things we do every day such as grabbing a coffee in the coffee shop and plugging our computers in to work for a while. However, even these little things use energy.
Fuel is needed to grow the coffee plants. Fuel is needed to roast the beans. Fuel is needed to get the beans to the coffee shop. Fuel is needed to brew the coffee. Fuel is needed to make the speciality drinks. Fuel is needed to power up the computer while you work. Fuel is needed to make the snack you have later on. Fuel is needed for everything we do.
The energy has to come from somewhere. This somewhere is either a renewable or non-renewable source. This chapter takes a look at what kind of fuels there are, classifies them into renewable and non-renewable sources, and gets you thinking about how you, personally, can make a reduction in your own life. Perhaps one day without the coffee shop?
