Description

Flow charts and bullet points are boring. Teach the scientific method and critical thinking skills at the same time with hands on activities that really bring the steps alive.

In this activity, the scientific method is described in a way that encourages the students to participate while learning it simply by daydreaming — a skill they are a natural at. If you have the students write their answers, it can take less than 30 minutes for this exercise. However, if you have them discuss their answers it can really bring the class alive.

One thing we hit on in this exercise is failure. Sometimes experiments fail, and that can hit a student’s confidence levels. Failure, however, can be a good thing in science as it opens up new areas of exploration. This mention is important as it helps kids grow confidence and resilience when they need it.
